Flood-affected Residents along Demerara River benefit from Relief Supplies

As, the government continues to strengthen its flood relief response, Hon. Susan Rodrigues Minister within The Ministry of Housing & Water joined hands with Hon. Kwame Mc Coy, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, for the distribution of relief supplies to residents along the Demerara River in Region Three and Region Four.

A $19.4 M contract for the upgrading of the water distribution network in the village of St. Ignatius has been handed to Romesh Kissoon of R. Kissoon Contracting Services. Minister of Housing and Water, the Hon. Collin D Croal on Sunday evening handed over the contract to Mr. Kissoon while a copy was also presented to the Village Toshao Mr. Wilson Laurentino.

The water systems in Hiowa, Quarrie, and Moco Moco will be up for a needs assessment in the wake of flooding in these and other villages in Central Rupununi. Minister of Housing and Water, the Hon. Collin D Croal on Saturday, held community meetings in these three villages where he was provided with information relating to the impact of the flooding situation.

Brighter days are ahead for residents residing in the hinterland community of Kokerite (Kokerital) Hill, Mabaruma, Region One. On Thursday, an electrical network to service the community was completed and handed over to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region One (Barima-Waini).
