Prospect Residents Joined by Min. Croal for Tree Planting Exercise Under the Prospect Phase 1 Community Aesthetic Enhancement Project

Residents of Prospect, New Housing Scheme joined with Minister of Housing and Water, the Hon. Collin D Croal, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing & Planning Authority – Sherwyn Greaves and the Community Development Department for the Prospect Phase One Community Aesthetic Enhancement Project on Sunday morning.

Residents were each given two plants as part of the community beautification project. The plants were donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Housing and Planning Authority.
During the exercise, Minister Croal spoke of the significance of the exercise as it relates to enhancing the environment and strengthening community involvement. He told residents that the activity has some important lessons about taking care of the environment and sustainability.
“While Community Development Projects are simple, they are meaningful and impactful they are geared at strengthening communities and ensuring that you’re resilient and sustainable”.

The Minister added, that I also speak to the importance of community involvement as key stakeholders in building cohesive and sustainable communities. Residents were also told of the Ministry’s plan to address the issue of cattle freely roaming the area as plans are in place for relocation.
Meanwhile, similar sentiments were expressed by the CEO, who noted that this exercise will be replicated in other communities. He added that the CH&PA is beyond just building new housing areas, but equally important is building wholesome communities with safe spaces.

Also present at this morning’s activity was Ms. Priscilla Brummell-District Crop Extension Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture – Guyana and Deputy Director of the CH&PA’s Community Development Department- Ms. Donell Bess-Bascom, who spearheaded the activity. Each resident was given an oleander plant and a fruit tree of their choice.
The Prospect new Housing development is one of the newest schemes under the Ministry of Housing and Water- Central Housing and Planning Authority. That community has benefited from several community development programs that are geared at building a better partnership and ultimately a stronger community.
