November 16, 2024- About eighty families in Section E Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara, will soon be able to process ownership documents, as plans are underway for the regularization of the area. Earlier today, Minister Susan Rodrigues, Minister within the Ministry, engaged with residents who have been living in the area for more than two decades, undocumented.
Two East Coast Demerara families have received life-changing support through the Core Homes Support Programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Water – Central Housing and Planning Authority, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aimed at providing dignified living for vulnerable groups. One of these homes, located in Lusignan, has been specially modified for a wheelchair-bound resident.
For the first time, 200 families in the Bamia community along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway now have legal access to potable water. On Wednesday, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Hon. As the Government of Guyana accelerates efforts toward its goal of 50,000 land allocations, the Ministry of Housing and Water is set to allocate over 600 house lots in Region Five today, bringing the total number of allocations to over 38,000. In 2022, the GoG initiated the Community Road Upgrade Programme (CRUP), which resulted in the upgrade of approx. 1100 community roads across Regions No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10.
Residents of some sections of Vigilance North and South, East Coast Demerara, are set to receive their Certificates of Title as the government continues the regularisation process in the area. This initiative aims to provide residents with legal land ownership and is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve housing security across the country in areas where regularisation is possible. In response to issues highlighted by residents on the current water supply in Region Three, the Ministry of Housing and Water-Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) is taking active measures to address these concerns. On Friday, Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal, inspected ongoing works at Vergenoegen, Parika, and Pouderoyen.
The Minister, who was accompanied by GWI’s Executive Director of Operations, Mr. Sunildatt Barran; Regional Manager, Mr. Aggrey Anderson; and technical team, emphasized that several initiatives have been implemented to alleviate the water woes faced by residents.
