Earlier this evening, Minister Susan Rodrigues met with residents of Unity, Mahaica, to discuss important issues affecting their community. The meeting provided an opportunity for residents to voice their concerns and suggest ways to improve public services and development plans.
One key issue raised was the need for better oversight of road projects in the area. Residents emphasized that while the construction of new roads is welcomed, it is essential to monitor these projects closely to protect both residents and their properties.
During the meeting, the Minister reflected on the progress made by the government over the past four years. She acknowledged that it has been a challenging period but highlighted their hard work in fulfilling the promises outlined in the government manifesto.

For instance, in the housing sector, the government set a goal to provide 50,000 homes, and so far, they have already allocated over 40,000 homes within the last four and a half years. The Minister also mentioned plans to address squatting issues in Mosquito Hall. The Ministry has completed the occupational survey, and plans are in place to advance the ownership document process.
Additionally, the Minister spoke about advancements in the water sector. Seven new water treatment plants are currently under construction, with two already in operation. She informed residents that the New Hope Surface Water Treatment Plant will benefit not just Unity but also nearby communities, providing better access to clean water. Residents living in villages between Cove and John and Cane Grove will benefit from this facility.

She highlighted that noticeable improvements are being made across various sectors. By the end of this term, the goal is to achieve universal secondary education, which would mark a significant milestone for the education system in the country. The health sector is also undergoing major upgrades, focusing on building state-of-the-art hospitals and improving the overall quality of life for citizens.
The Minister emphasized the importance of engaging with the community. She noted that involving residents in the development of projects and policies is crucial for creating initiatives that genuinely benefit everyone.
Meanwhile, residents also had the opportunity to engage with Mr. Gladwin Charles, the Director of the Community Development Department, and a senior representative from Guyana Water Incorporated, to discuss the issues affecting them.
