Upgrading of Community Roads in Regions No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10

Upgrading of Community Roads in Regions No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10

In 2022, the GoG initiated the Community Road Upgrade Programme (CRUP), which resulted in the upgrade of approx. 1100 community roads across Regions No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10.

At a cost of GY $22.7 billion dollars. The roll-out of this Programme was done under joint supervision by the Ministry of Housing and Water-Central Housing and Planning Authority (MoHW-CH&PA), Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development (MoLGRD), and Ministry of Public Works (MoPW).

Building on the success of this Programme, the Government through the MoHW-CH&PA recently initiated a similar Programme, which will see the upgrade of a further 110 No. community roads across those regions. A total of GY $1.98 billion will be expended to effect this upgrading programme, which would ultimately result in the enhancement of more than 15.5 km of asphaltic concrete and reinforced concrete surface roads. As was done under the 2022 Programme, the 2024 road upgrade works will be managed by the CH&PA’s Projects Department, which comprises a large complement of competent Engineering staff. An ambitious target of 6 weeks has been set for the completion of all road upgrades.

Key communities, which will benefit from this Programme include Amelia’s Ward, Covent Garden, Experiment, Farm, Herstelling, Little Diamond, De Engrat/Mon Repos, Ordnance Fortlands, Perseverance, Peter’s Hall, Williamsburg/Hampshire, Onderneeming, La Parfaite Harmonie, Prospect, Providence, Blocks AA-EE Eccles and Providence Garden.
