95% of Tiperu Village Now Receiving Water Access

The residents of Tiperu Village in the South Pakaraimas, Region Nine, are now benefitting from significantly improved access to potable water following the commissioning of a new water supply system by Minister of Housing and Water, the Hon. Collin Croal on Thursday.

Tiperu is the oldest village in the Karasabai sub-district and is home to approximately 350 residents. Prior to the intervention, only 32% of the population had access to water from surface water sources, a drilled well and elevated storage.

Minister Croal, stated that improved water access in the hinterland regions is a key priority for the government, as clean water plays a role in the health and well-being of populations.

“The work we are doing reflects our government’s commitment to bridging development gaps and empowering communities,” remarked the Minister.

This is part of the Guyana Water Incorporated’s (GWI) programme to improve hinterland water access. The scope of works for the new system includes the drilling of a well, the expansion of the distribution network, and the installation of additional service connections across the community. The project was completed in collaboration with the Village Council, ensuring community involvement throughout the process
