The government, under the leadership of President Dr. Irfaan Ali, continues to make significant strides in fulfilling its commitments to the people. During a community engagement on Thursday in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Hon. Susan Rodrigues, underscored the administration’s dedication to delivering on its promises. She was joined by Member of Parliament, Hon. Suresh Singh, staff of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Guyana Water Inc., and community representatives.

“When we say we are going to do something, we get it done,” Minister Rodrigues stated, emphasizing the government’s results-driven approach.

Minister Rodrigues highlighted the significant investments in the housing sector, including along the East Coast of Demerara, where billions of dollars have been allocated to new housing developments. She noted the transformative impact of homeownership, stating that access to adequate and affordable housing provides stability and helps combat social challenges. The Minister said that housing is more than just shelter– it empowers individuals, strengthens families, and contributes to national development.

Minister Rodrigues also spoke of ongoing efforts to enhance water accessibility and quality nationwide. In the context of Mon Repos, residents have faced challenges with limited water supply. In response, the government is drilling a new well. The well will increase the capacity of the Mon Repos water treatment plant, which is undergoing major upgrades. The works on the plant are 95% complete and are expected to be done in a few months.
“More people will have access to water, it will be of better quality, and residents will enjoy 24-hour service,” assured the Minister.
Moreover, Minister Rodrigues highlighted progress in local government development, infrastructure, energy, education, and health. She further assured residents that the administration remains committed to comprehensive national development. Residents also raised concerns about agriculture, community facilities, and squatting, all of which are being addressed by the Minister and team.
