๐ ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ด, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ญ – Hon. Susan Rodrigues Minister within The Ministry of Housing & Water has committed to the expedite resolution of a number of housing and water issues affecting residents in Region Five.
Following several site visits in the region, the Minister facilitated two community meetings at the Latchmansingh Primary School in Bush Lot and Blairmont Primary School in Blairmont, Region Five.
Given the opportunity, residents raised concerns relating to land titling and transports, house lot allocations and the water serivices. A number of these issues were addressed on the spot by Minister Rodrigues, while she committed to dealing with others in a timely manner.
In relation to titles and transports, the Minister committed to return to the region in the soonest possible time to deliver processed land titles and transports to those waiting. She further noted significant improvement in the operations of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) over the last nine months, as she announced more development is on the way. Plans are in motion for the development of several new wells to serve the region and the requisite water treatment facilities.
Meanwhile, with regards to house lot allocations, the Minister was pleased to announce that the process is currently ongoing for the acquisition of lands for new housing areas. So far approximately 5,000 acres of lands have been identified and the Ministry is working along with the Mahaica Mahaicony Abary – Agricultural Development Authority (MMA-ADA) and Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) to on the legal framework. Minister Rodrigues visited these prospective housing areas today, to assess their potential.
Permanent Secretary, of the Ministry of Housing and Water, Mr. Andre Ally in his remarks told residents that almost $500 million has been allocated for infrastructure works in new and existing housing schemes in Region Five, as he affirmed that Ministry will be working to ensure that the projects are completed in a timely manner.
Parliamentary representative of Region Five, Mr. Faizal Jafferally, welcomed the Ministerโs visit and the level of investments being pumped into the region by the government. This he said is critical in ensuring that the Region is not left behind as the nation’s housing sector takes off over the next five years.
