On Wednesday, several contractors participated in a pre-bid meeting hosted by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) for the construction of the four-lane Eccles to Mandela Highway.
The meeting was held at the Regency Hotel in Georgetown, under the guidance of Director of Projects Mr. Omar Narine and other key technical staff of the department who are holding discussions on the procurement process and environmental compliance.
It was geared at sensitizing bidders on key requirements, environmental impacts, the procurement process, and all things necessary in the preparation and execution of this transformational project.
Presentations were done by Procurement Officer, Ms. Kenola Levans, and Sunil Gopaul who is presenting in the area of Health and Safety Compliance.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Mr. Sherwyn Greaves in his remarks, spoke of the agency’s commitment to the government’s mandate of building communities with all the necessary amenities.
“Your attendance here is testimony to the interest in this project and this project one that will clear the misconception that CHPA is all about house lot allocation,” he stated.
The CEO reiterated that it is important for citizens to understand that communities and housing schemes must and will be outfitted with the much-needed infrastructure that will spur economic growth.
“This highway project will open up major economic activities, that is to say, it will provide employment and it will feature security watchtowers, bicycle lanes, comfort zones, and roads leading adjacent communities”.
Outlining the benefits of the projects, the CEO also spoke of improved orderly roadway access, an alternate roadway from the East Bank Corridor to the city, cutting travel time for commuters, and the opening of residential and commercial development.
This project has been advertised in Six Lots; Lot 1- Eccles, East Bank Demerara, Lot 2- Agricola, Lot 3 – Rome, Lot – 4 Huston South, Lot 5 Huston North, and Lot 6- South Ruimveldt.
