Communities across Region 6, East Berbice Corentyne are poised for massive development over the coming months as some $2 billion has been committed by the Ministry of Housing, under its 2021 work program. Continuing from its 2020 work program, the Central Housing and Planning Authority being the executing agency will continue to oversee these massive infrastructure developments which will add significant value to the lives of citizens within the region.
Minister of Housing and Water, the Hon. Collin Croal brought residents up to date of the agency’s projections for 2021, during his first public engagement in the region for the year, which was held at Regional Democratic Council’s boardroom. These engagements the Minister said is an indication of how the Ministry intends to function, through inclusion and consultations.
“We will continue engaging communities throughout the country and for which we have remit to ensure that their unique housing needs are met,” the Minister reiterated.
In his remarks to those in attendance, the Minister spoke of the ongoing works in the region which include, the construction of internal roads, access bridges and land clearing for the development of new housing areas. Works to the tune of $54 million are being executed in the villages of Williamsburg, Hampshire, Ordinance Fortlands. Additionally, the region will benefit from the construction of some 200 low-income houses which is expected to transform the lives of low-income families.
Speaking to the issue of the issuing of title and transport, Minister Croal told residents that the agency is currently working to address the backlog within the coming months. Presently close to five hundred titles are being processed and will be ready for distribution shortly.
The Minister also used the opportunity to highlight some of the Guyana Water Inc. plans for improving service to the region and plans to reach its target for treated water.
The Minister and his team further interacted with residents and in some instances bring on the spot solutions to longstanding housing related matters.
