Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry, Hon. Susan Rodrigues today met with senior officers of Guyana Water Incorporated to discuss budgetary preparations for the fiscal year of 2020 of the utility company. Those present were Managing Director (ag.), Nigel Niles, Finance Director, Dharmendra Dharmo, Hinterland Director, Ramchand Jailall, and Programme Manager, Arshad Yacoub.
Speaking on behalf of his entity, Mr. Niles pointed out that the agency’s strategic plan covers five years (2017-2021) and entails short, medium, and long term projections. Mr. Niles said that his team would concentrate largely on water sustainability and supply, leaks, and maintenance. His proposal also entailed the rehabilitation of distribution networks throughout the country.
The GWI representatives further staked a claim for the drilling of wells in Uitvlugt on the West Coast of Demerara, Pouderoyen on the West Bank of Demerara, and Port Mourant on the Corentyne among other areas.
The GWI team also indicated that the entity will increase meter coverage in several communities including Providence on the East Bank Demerara and La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara. This will increase water flow to consumers while stemming revenue losses in those areas and generally improve on services.
